A school dental screening is done by a Registered Dental Hygienist and a Certified Dental Assistant from Lakelands Public Health. A dental screening is a quick, visual look of a child’s mouth with a sterile mirror. This screening does not replace a child’s regular visits with their dental provider. The Public Health dental team visiting your child’s school uses current infection prevention and control measures.
School Screenings Help to:
- Identify children with urgent oral health needs or other oral health issues.
- Provide essential preventive oral health services.
- Link eligible students with free oral health programs for Children and Youth 0-17 .
- Monitor the oral health needs in our communities.
It is best if all eligible children are screened. However, parents/guardians can decline their child’s participation by calling the Oral Health Team at least 2 business days before the screening day, and leaving a message with your child’s name, date of birth, school and grade. Please do not send a note to the school. To call us:
