Restaurants and Food Premises

Every person who intends to operate a food premises within the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District area must notify the Medical Officer of Health before starting. This requirement also applies to operators purchasing an existing food premise.

There are many special or community events that involve serving food to the public. In some cases, these special events serve food to thousands of people. Food that is improperly prepared can cause illness, and in some cases, serious complications or even death.

All food premises, including special event vendors, are required to have at least one food handler onsite during every hour of operation. It is recommended that anyone working in the food industry obtain Food Handler Certification.
